Astoria Brewing Company

If you’re looking for Oregon Coast breweries with a view, Astoria Brewing Company has got you covered. The Astoria Brewing Company Taproom is located in the heart of downtown Astoria, and features outdoor patio seating with views of the Columbia River. The interior is spacious yet cozy, with string lights hung from high wooden ceilings creating a fun vibe.

Alright, let’s talk beer – from amber ales and IPAs to porters and pilsners, there’s plenty on tap to choose from. Many of their brews have been regulars since the brewery opened, Don’t miss their Strawberry Blonde Ale – a local favorite, brewed with fresh Oregon strawberries.

This brewery brings even more to the table than just beer and ambience – the burgers and comfort food they serve up here are out of this world. My personal favorite is the Bleus burger (with a side of homemade clam chowder, of course), followed closely by the pulled pork mac and cheese. They also run fun drink specials, like the delicious “Rum Raisin Cookie” – a must-try sweet treat.

This brewery is the oldest microbrewery in Astoria, and originally opened its doors in 1997 as the Wet Dog Cafe. Come find out for yourself why it’s been a local hot spot for 25 years!

Fort George Brewery & Public House

6 Best Breweries In Astoria, Oregon (Updated in 2024) (4)

Fort George Brewery has it all – West Coast IPAs, pilsners, stouts, lagers – the list is long. They also feature seasonal and occasional beers, so there’s always something new to sip on. Try Dismal Nitch, a dark lager steeped in local history, or The Meadow, a classic German-style pilsner. For a real treat, order up a glass of Matryoshka – a barrel aged stout that makes for the ultimate dessert beer.

Fort George boasts three different spaces, each with its own distinct vibe: the Lovell Taproom, Upstairs Pizzeria, and Downstairs. You’ll find mouthwatering food menus upstairs and downstairs, and of course, must-try local beers in each spot. Let’s break it down by location:

Fort George Upstairs

The upstairs area is welcoming and spacious – it’s the perfect spot to meet up with friends for a drink or enjoy dinner with your family. Here, you’ll find a creative pizza menu to order from, as well as appetizers, salads, and desserts. I highly recommend the Cherry Bomb pizza – pepperoni, pickled cherry peppers, and a drizzle of hot honey make it the perfect sweet-yet-savory pie. As a New Yorker, I can assure you that Fort George pizza really hits the spot!

Fort George Downstairs

Downstairs is home to the public house, and outdoor seating area, which has biergarten-y vibes. You can grab a seat at the bar, a booth, high top table, or outdoor picnic table. Order up a burger and some fries to go with your pint – the downstairs food menu does not disappoint. If you’re in a particularly decadent mood, try the Dirty Fries, complete with pork belly, peppers, and chipotle mayo.

Lovell Taproom

Fort George created a taproom in Astoria’s historic Lovell Auto Building. Here, you can catch live music, and lectures on topics like “Shakespeare & Shipwrecks,” “Orcas of the Oregon Coast,” and local history. If you’re looking for a drink and a local event, check out Fort George’s schedule and pull up a barstool!

➤ Fort George also hosts Astoria’s annual Festival of the Dark Arts. Tickets sell out fast, but you can savor a variety of dark beers and stouts all through the month of February.

Buoy Beer Company

Buoy Beer Company may be Astoria’s newest brewery, but it’s taken this coastal town by storm. Its original location on the Columbia River is currently closed for construction after a partial roof collapse in the summer of 2022. But, its temporary home at the Astoria Food Hub is open for business and thriving.

Buoy offers a wide variety of beers, including a rotating selection – their latest and greatest is a malty-sweet Italian Pilsner. You can’t go wrong with their original, hoppy Northwest Red Ale. My personal favorite is their Cream Ale – crisp and semi-sweet, it’s the perfect summer sipper.

If you’re the type who likes to crack a cold one after a run, you’re in luck. Each May, Buoy hosts Astoria’s “Run on the River” race. Lace up your running shoes and hit the Riverwalk for a 5k, 10k, or half marathon – followed by well-earned beers at the finish line! Lunch, beer, a race shirt, and finisher’s medal are all included with registration. I ran this race in 2022 with my dad when I first moved here, and it was a great way to get to know the community!

Obelisk Beer Co

Meet Obelisk Beer Co – Astoria’s newest brewery located in a 72 year old warehouse downtown. With its diverse tap list ranging from double hazy IPAs and a vanilla stout to a pilsner and Kolsch-inspired brew, there’s something new for everyone to try here. Obelisk Beer Co is rapidly becoming a local favorite – so grab a barstool or a table and be part of this new brewery’s early story!

Hondo’s Brew Pub & Tap Room

Hondo’s might be the most unique watering hole among Astoria breweries. A brew pub, taproom, and homebrew supply store all in one, Hondo’s is the whole package when it comes to beer. Whether you come visit for a pint of local beer, a classic sandwich, or to start your own home brewery, you’re sure to leave satisfied.

Hondo’s brews are canine themed, with names like Daschund Dunkelweizen, K-9 Kolsch, Clifford the Big Redd Dog IPA, and more. They offer a huge variety of beers on tap, so there’s something to suit everyone’s taste here. Pair your local beer with a warm panini, and you’re in for a combination that would make anybody’s tail wag.

Rogue Pier 39 Public House

A historic pier? Views of Washington and the mighty Columbia? 30 beers on tap? Rogue Pier 39 Public House has all that and more. Rogue is now an internationally known brand, but has its roots right here in Oregon, with a history that spans the last three decades. One of the most well-known Oregon Coast breweries, Rogue has 6 pubs in Oregon. Though (imho), its Astoria location inside the old Bumble Bee Tuna Cannery is the most scenic.

In addition to its long tap list, you’ll find delectable bar food and a co*cktail menu here as well. You can’t go wrong with Rogue’s classic Dead Guy Ale or Honey Kolsch – pair with an order of fried cheese curds for maximum yum!

➤ If you’re looking for things to do in Astoria, Rogue Pier 39 Public House is located on the same pier as the Hanthorn Cannery Museum – grab a beer then head over to learn about Astoria’s fishing history.

Reach Break Brewing

NOTE: Unfortunately, Reach Break Brewing closed in late 2023.

Reach Break Brewing was all about local vibes and the people who call the PNW home. Their indoor taproom and bold brews brought people together seven days a week. Reach Break hosted food trucks like Coastal Smash and Wahoo Charlie’s, and was home to a covered patio with outdoor seating where you could enjoy a handcrafted beer with your local eats, Reach Break’s extensive tap list was largely their own, like their Scandinavian Pilsner and delightfully fruity Blackberry Ringer Ale.

Fortune & Glory Cider Company

NOTE: Unfortunately, Fortune & Glory Cider Company closed its doors in early 2024. BUT the good news is…you’ll likely still be able to order their ciders at Galactix, an arcade bar in downtown Astoria, for some time to come.

In addition to all these fine Astoria breweries, Fortune & Glory offered something a little different (but still extremely list-worthy) – the town’s one and only cidery, Fortune & Glory Cider Company! Originally known as Reveille Ciderworks, they rebranded and reopened in an annex of local favorite Fort George Brewery. They offered more than 30 varieties of cider made with apples from various Oregon localities, and this spot will be missed.

So there you have it – the official rundown on the best breweries in Astoria, Oregon. I hope this post helps you pick a few Astoria breweries to visit on your next trip to town. Each one has its own awesome vibe, and local beers that can’t be beat! Anyone else ready for a drink?
